
Family is the smallest and the most important unit of a society. Peace and harmony of this unit ensure societal happiness and well-being. At the same time, it also a fact that every family has issues that are complex and disputes relating to personal laws are on the rise. It is therefore essential to regulate the issues based on customs, traditions and codify them for bring uniformity. Family law is thus important to protect the family units, thereby saving the society. Hindu Law is a progressive law which has transformed society according to its need. Studying the old Hindu Law and comparing it with the codified law is therefore inevitable. This book compares the old and new law and gives suggestions for required changes.
Key Features

Born in Kanpur in 1964, Prof Mamta Rao did her schooling at Mariampur Higher Secondary School. After her graduation from and College, Kanpur, and LLB from VSSD College, Kanpur, she was awarded the gold medal by RDDV for achieving the first position in LLM. After her PhD in 1996, her academic pursuit continued and she was awarded DLitt (Law) by Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur in 2018. After a 3-year stint as Senior Research officer of a Ford Foundation Project, she joined the Law department of RD University as lecturer in 1995 and became a permanent faculty in 2000.
Besides her teaching engagement, Prof. Rao has held a number of important positions. She was Dean, Faculty of Law, and Head, Department of postgraduate Studies and Research in Law, Rani Durgavati University. She was a Member of Academic and Executive Council of Rani Durgavati University and is presently chairman, Board of studies (Law) of the same University. She is also professor-in-charge of the Legal Cell of the University. She has been a member of inspection teams of NAAC. She has, to her credit, a number of Research Papers and has attended National and international seminars. She has delivered a number of lectures in the capacity of Resource person. She has authored a number of books, including Women and Law, Public Interest Litigation, Consumer Protection Act and Constitutional Law of India.
